In August, I’ll offer my fused art glass pendant class on Saturday, August 7^th from 12:00 – 3:00.  We’ll make 8 pendants OR 6 pendants and 2 pairs of earrings.  Cost is $75 per student and class is limited to 6 students.

I’ll also offer the sushi plate class on Saturday, August 14^th, also from 12:00 – 3:00.  We’ll make a 10 x 10 curved sushi plate and a matching Wasabi dish.  Cost is$100 per student and class is limited to 6 students.  This will be the first time this latter class has been offered!

Texas Artists Coalition 5th Annual Juried Membership Exhibit

2010 Juror Barry Whistler of Barry Whistler Gallery in Dallas selected 35 works from 20 artists from a record-setting 108 artists and almost 300 artworks. Six awards will be presented on August 6 around 7:30PM.

The Texas Artists Coalition is a membership program designed to offer benefits for artists in the North Texas community. These benefits range from an annual juried exhibition to peer reviews to workshops, plus much more. The mission of the TAC is to support the career development of artists, whether they are emerging or established, amateur or professional. Programs of the TAC are supported by the Arts Council of Fort Worth and Tarrant County, the Fort Worth Community Arts Center and a grant from the Texas Commission on the Arts.

Art Educators of North Central Texas is a not-for-profit organization associated with the Texas Art Education Association. Through the efforts of dedicated Art Educators, the association was established in 1990 in order to:

• Elevate the standards of Youth Art and Art Education throughout the North Central Texas region
• Offer an avenue for professional relationships in the area
• Provide representation at State and National levels to smaller school districts outside the larger metroplex

As we celebrate 20 years, the Art Educators of North Central Texas remain actively involved by meeting monthly and conducting workshops with guest artists. Members of AENCT are productive artists in addition to being Art Educators.

The Cultural Center of the Americas in collaboration with the Mexican Consulate will be celebrating two major historical events; the Bicentennial of the Mexican War of Independence of 1810, as well as The Centennial commemorating the Mexican Revolution of 1910.

The exhibit brings together 33 art pieces from Oxaca, Mexico from artists such as Francisco Toledo, Sergio Hernandez, Shinzaburo Takeda, Alejandro Santiago, Ruben Leyva, Rodolfo Morales, Cecilio Sanchez, Jesus Urbieta, Jose Villalobos, Victor Chaca and Rolando Riojas.

The AIR/HMC invites interested visual artists, writers, performers to submit application for its residency program in December-January. The goal is to provide a supportive community with uninterrupted time to work.  AIR/HMC, Budapest is an international meeting point for the arts.  Its aim is to support and encourage contemporary artistic creation, research and debate.  The purpose of this program is to offer a platform to promote the exchange of artistic discourses from artists with different artistic backgrounds and from different geographical origins.  

AIR/HMC is open to artists of all practices: drawing, painting, literature, video, photography, performance.

During the artist’s stay, committee members will be invited to individual visits to the workshops. Our workshop visiting program will feature art professionals added with personalized invitations to curators, art critics and heads of international institutions.

Applicants are expected to speak and understand English.

While HMC does not provide funding for residencies, we are helping to facilitate the creation of program, the cost of the exhibitions and cover %40 of total cost, artists cover %60.

The HMC is an artist run, non-profit, multi-disciplinary arts organization dedicated to excellence, experimentation, and education in all forms of contemporary art and culture.  The AIR-HMC’s mission to bridge cultural, geographic, and linguistic divides by bringing people together through the arts in order to foster a greater understanding of world cultures. 

"COLOR" will provide you with information about the elements necessary to achieve beautiful, clean colors. We will discuss transparent through opaque paints, warms and cools, whites , etc, as well as colors which mix together well (and those that don't).

As usual, in my classes, there will be homework. Mainly mixing colors such as lovely violets and luscious greens.

Exhibition Opportunity: International Call to Artists, Architects + Designers

The BECA Foundation is pleased to present SHIFT, an exhibition of new works of art + design featuring works that express, reveal, embody or address a change or movement on some level – be it social, cultural, physical, metaphysical, political, technological or any other relative shift. For the purpose of this Call, submitting artists, architects and designers are encouraged to freely interpret the meaning of the word ‘shift’. 

Those at least 18 years of age from any country are eligible to submit their works for consideration according to the guidelines below. The BECA Foundation will host the exhibition at New Studio A.D., a new multi-functional studio, exhibition and event space located in downtown Albuquerque, New Mexico. The space allocated for the exhibition is 650 sqft (60 sq meters) with a ceiling height of 14 feet (4.3 meters) allowing the exhibition to fill a full 9,100 cubic feet (258 meters cubed) of viewing space. Our guest this hour thinks we should consider it. We'll talk with Thomas Armstrong author of "Neurodiversity: Discovering the Extraordinary Gifts of Autism, ADHD, Dyslexia, and Other Brain Differences" Da Capo Lifelong Books, 2010).

1pm:                What are the different roles played by zoos and are they important enough to justify life-long captivity of animals? What's life really like inside a zoo? We'll talk this hour with Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Thomas French who spent six years researching and reporting for his latest work "Zoo Story: Life in the Garden of Captives" (Hyperion, 2010).
