Sue St.John has a new ebook and DVD for artists. The ebook and DVD is titled “A Walk Into Abstracts” — “How Did They Do That?”. This book and DVD is filled with 58 abstract artists from various states. Each artist has one or two images with their working process written in their own words on how they painted the work of art from beginning to end.  Some local artists are included: Jane E. Jones, NWS, SWS, Cheryl D. McClure, SWS, TVAA, Barbara Millican, AWS, NWS, Marie Renfro, SWS, TVAA, Sharon Stone, SWS etc.

The corresponding DVD is also available and allows you to start and stop at any point of the working processes. This will have a positive effect on every artist’s working process. This book is able to present an enormous amount of art works and information on “how they did that” in a small space. This book also allows for the observation of many different styles, techniques, colors and applications. The number of beautiful abstract images in this book is stunning.

The Pearce Museum on the campus of Navarro College is pleased to present a special exhibition featuring native Texas artist Albino Hinojosa. Hinojosa was born in Atlanta, Texas, and spent his early days in Kildare. After high school he studied art at Texarkana College, then East Texas State University. Charles McGough, Dr. Paul Kelpe, and Jack Unrush were all his mentors. Hinojosa has painted and exhibited widely while teaching at Northeast Louisiana University (now ULM) and Louisiana Tech University.

Remnants of the Plains is a contemplative look at the odds and ends of a past many of us have forgotten. Abandoned shells of what were once lively homesteads are set against barren landscapes that seem both expansive and i9solating. To say that Hinojosa’s work falls into the category of realism is an understatement.  It is impossible to deny his careful consideration of detail. Every crack and crevice, scrape, and faded paint chip is visible.

The Irving Arts Center presents a contemporary sculpture exhibition by L.A. artist Mineko Grimmer, who is known for her unique installations that combine stunning visuals with auditory effects.

Her work will be on display in the Irving Arts Center’s Main Gallery during her exhibition entitled Gongs.Wires.Bamboo, from Sept. 11 to Oct. 31. The opening reception is from 7-9 p.m. on Sept. 11 at the Arts Center. Gallery admission is free and the Arts Center is located at 3333 N. MacArthur Blvd, Irving, TX 75062.

Grimmer’s installations are anchored below inverted ice pyramids containing pebbles. As the ice melts, pebbles are released into the installation, impacting a variety of elements and allowing patrons to experience a progressive medley of sounds.

Grimmer’s installation for the Irving Arts Center will feature five, 6’ x 6’ structures, aligned along the center of the facility’s spacious Main Gallery. The exterior structures will reach a height of 19”, gradually increasing to 38” in the middle. Each structure contains a shallow pool of water along with elements of bronze, tension wires or bamboo lattice work. Inverted ice pyramids will be suspended above the structures.

For more information contact the Arts Center at 972-252-7558 or visit www.irvingartscenter.com.
